A Brief History

An extract from the Lodges 100 year history: -

October 10th. 1893

Despite the assertion in the History of Provincial Grand Lodge that no event of any importance apart from the official laying of the Foundation Stone of the Church of St. John the Evangelist at Boscombe characterised the year 1893.

The then little regarded, but of greater moment Masonically, birth of the Border Lodge in the remote corner of the Province was to prove a great addition to its strength, for a zeal towards the Craft, Loyalty to the Province. Concern for it domestic well-being and highest interest, earnestness in aim for accuracy of working the ceremonies, endeavour on behalf of the Masonic Charities, the production of noteworthy Masons, hospitality towards its visitors and general integrity, this Lodge may well be equalled but is unsurpassed in the Province.

Extract from a short History of Panmure Lodge No. 723 by Worshipful Brother Burt W. Edgoose B.Sc., J.P.

In the Minutes of a Meeting of March 14th. 1893 one reads  "The secretary then read a petition from the brethren named therein to the Grand Lodge of England praying that they should be allowed to form a Lodge at Blackwater to be named The Border Lodge and asking the Panmure Lodge to support the application.

What’s in a Name.

Why was the Lodge called The Border Lodge? It was because the lodge was formed in Blackwater which is on the borders of Surrey, Hampshire and Berkshire, and it has for the majority of it’s existence has had dispensations from both Surrey and Hampshire to meet in Surrey as it still does today at The  Masonic Centre, 42 Castle Street, Farnham, Surrey.

The Lodge.

We are a very active lodge with in excess of 50 members of which around 30 attend each of our meetings. During the season we meet most weeks for a practise and perform a full rehearsal on the Tuesday prior to the meeting. We have been honoured by receiving our platinum award for the 2005 festival, which we display with pride along with the pewter trowel at all our meetings.
