Thank you for visiting the Province of Hampshire and Isle of Wight web-site.
Freemasonry in Hampshire and Isle of Wight has a long and honourable history dating back to the early eighteenth century.
Today, some 12,500 Brethren meet in 256 Lodges located throughout the Province which covers the whole of Hampshire and Isle of Wight and part of the County of Dorset, particularly Bournemouth.
Freemasonry has been accused of being a "secret society" but this is far from the truth. The very existence of this and many other web-sites for Freemasonry under the United Grand Lodge of England, together with the ready availability of books on our Institution and the opening to the public of Masonic buildings, including the Grand Lodge in London, should surely dispel this myth.
The Craft draws its Membership from the community at large and welcomes men of proven integrity who subscribe to our principles of morality and service. It may appeal to those seeking simple companionship, but hopefully will provide a deeper, more philosophical experience, enhancing their ability to contribute to society in general. In every case this must be without detriment to our commitments to our families.
Charity is an important element in our obligation as Freemasons. This extends well beyond those charities exclusive to our Brethren and their dependents. Both nationally and within this Province Freemasonry makes substantial contributions to non-Masonic charities without recourse to public fund-raising.
If you consider that you could be an asset to our Ancient and Honourable Institution, and in return derive personal fulfilment from it, please write for further information, mentioning this web page, to The Provincial Grand Secretary, 85 Winchester Road, Chandlers Ford, Eastleigh, Hampshire SO23 5GG.
